One change. A little curiosity.
Personal Sleep Experiment Builder
Did that new habit help, or was it simply a better night? Create a small, manageable experiment: observe your usual routine, try one change, and look at the pattern across several nights.
This builder creates a plan and a blank daily log. You record your observations in the downloaded text file, on paper, or in your own diary.
Your experiment plan and daily log
Build your plan, then edit it here. Print or download the edited version. Changing the form requires rebuilding, which replaces direct edits after confirmation.
How to make the experiment useful
- Keep notes brief. Estimate sleep the next morning. For daytime alertness, rate it at your chosen daytime check-in.
- Record exceptions. Illness, stress, travel, alcohol, unusual caffeine, and missed trial nights can help explain a result. Don’t quietly delete difficult nights.
- Look beyond one score. Note daytime functioning and unwanted effects. Wearable sleep stages are estimates; avoid making deep sleep or REM your success target.
- Allow an unclear answer. A before-and-after comparison cannot prove the change caused a difference. Expectations, natural variation, and other changes can influence the result.
If tracking makes you anxious or overly focused on sleep, stop tracking and consider a simpler approach with a clinician.
